Kelloggsville Faith Formation Ministries exists to glorify God and serve the Church.
We hope to do this through formation, personal expression, and outreach.
Faith formation ministries are formative through the content being taught and the relationships being developed. This aspect is often times thought of as being all about information and head knowledge, but it goes much deeper than that. As individuals learn (not only stories of the Bible, but life lessons), they are taught facts, concepts, and hopefully their world-view’s or life-orientation’s are being shaped. Through knowledge and relationships, youth and adults alike are shaped and encouraged to live as disciples of Christ. Along with listening and observing, as other believers teach, they are able to better understand their knowledge and faith. We also believe that corporate worship gatherings are key in the faith formation of individuals. Psalm 119:105 alludes to the Word being a “lamp unto our feet and a light to our path”—through teaching, learning, and worship we are continually guided by that Light.
In Romans 6:6-8, Paul writes: “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;…” (NIV). Faith formation ministries are opportunities for personal expression for those with the gifts of teaching, relational ministry, hospitality, serving, and many more! As each one of us has different gifts, we ought to use those gifts to serve the church, and glorify our Lord! This initiative is not limited to anyone of any age, gender, or race; but is a multigenerational, multiple-gender, multiethnic calling. (you don’t need to be under the age of 30, and you don’t need to dress cool)
Finally, there is a missional-outreach goal to faith formation ministries. As we are commissioned by Christ to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20a). Teaching is a key way that many come to a saving knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ. It is important to realize that teaching can happen in many different contexts; whether VBS, Adult Ed, YoungLife, Sports Ministry, Youth Retreats, or Service Trips, all of these are legitimate ministries where important discipleship and teaching can take place from a potential missional platform.
All of this to say, God, His glory, and Church are at the center of our ministry. We believe God is most glorified in all ministries when (by the Spirit) we seek to be disciples of Christ that the world may know His glory. We have hope that God is actively redeeming all creation, and it is a privilege to participate in that work. Our goal is that each student would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and will dedicate their lives to following Him. Some possible visible markers of this include (but are not limited to): profession of faith, volunteering, participation in corporate worship, and many others.
